Millage Rate Reduction on Minds of Commissioners

Cherokee taxpayers may see some relief if the commissioners approve the proposal to lower the millage rate.

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will look to reduce the county millage rate during their meeting Thursday evening.

If the commissioners approve the roll back, Cherokee's tax payers will see their millage rates reduced to the following levels:

  • 5.793 for the general fund (currently at 5.825)
  • 3.370 for the fire district (currently at 3.394)
  • .776 mills for the parks bond (currently at .780)
All told, the reductions will drop the millage rate from 9.999 mills to 9.947 mills. For a homeowner with $100,000 worth of taxable property, this roll back will save them roughly $5.20 a year.

Should the roll backs be approved, they will not be officially adopted until July 25, when the county will formally adopt its millage rate and the rate set by the Cherokee County School District.

The Board of Commissioners meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Bluffs Administration Building in Canton. For further information on the meeting, please see the attached agenda.
