Shot 5 Times, Canton Woman Dies

Her boyfriend is at the Cherokee County Detention Center without bond.

A 19-year-old Canton woman has died after being shot five times early this morning, and her 21-year-old boyfriend has been charged with her murder, the spokesman for the said.

Just before 1 a.m. today, deputies were dispatched to 370 Pea Ridge Rd. There, they found a wounded Dejanirra Elrod near the doorway of the home, Lt. Jay Baker said. She was transported to Marietta's  where she later died of her injuries.

While no one saw the shooting, investigators learned that Elrod’s boyfriend, Trevor Nuckles of Canton, had been at the scene of the shooting.

"When the homeowner tried to call 911," Baker said, "Nuckles grabbed her phone and threw it to the ground before leaving the scene on foot."

Authorities began a search for Nuckles, and a officer found him walking near the , an apartment community located off of Reinhardt College Parkway. Nuckles lived there with Elrod.

Nuckles was taken into custody for questioning. Meanwhile, investigators from Cherokee and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team searched the woods between the crime scene and River Ridge.

"A 9mm handgun, believed to be the murder weapon, was located approximately 50 yards from the crime scene in the woods off Pine Grove Road," Baker said.

Nuckles was charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and obstruction of a 911 call.

He is at the  without bond.
