Canton Police Officer Recognized for Saving Man's Life

Officer Stephen Delman performed CPR on a man who had stopped breathing after a suspected medication overdose.

The Canton Police Department has honored an officer who was responsible for saving the life of a 21-year-old man earlier this month.
Officer Stephen Delman, in his third year as a patrol officer, responded to a home on Canton's Killian Street on July 15 where it was suspected that a man had possibly overdosed on medication.
When Delman arrived at the house, he found the man, who was gasping for air. Soon afterwards, the man's eyes rolled back into his head and he stopped breathing. Delman immediately began CPR to revive the man. Delman was assisted by Officer Brantley Worley, who monitored the man's pulse.
Delman was able to revive the man, and paramedics soon arrived to take him to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for treatment.
On Monday, Delman was honored by Canton Police Chief Robert Merchant for his efforts to save the man's life. Delman was awarded the Life Saving Medal for, "Outstanding police performance, in the saving of a human life, and the display of conspicuous initiative, capability, and attention to duty, thereby earning respect and admiration for himself and the Department."
This is Delman's second Life Saving Award.
