Volunteers Needed to Clean Canton Creek

The annual Rivers Alive Clean Up will take place Friday, Nov. 15, and volunteers will clean Canton Creek.

Canton residents who are passionate about the environment and like to get their hands dirty are asked to take part in the Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Rivers Alive Clean Up.

Volunteers will meet at Harmon Field, located at 226 Harmon Circle, at 8:30 a.m. Friday Nov. 15 and proceed to clean Canton Creek and the area surrounding the waterway.

Those who wish to participate will be asked to sign waivers during registration and parents are required to accompany children under 18.

Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Canton Creek Monitors are working together with local boy scouts, the city of Canton and the Upper Etowah River Alliance to help clean up this stretch of Canton Creek.

Those who wish to take part in the clean up are asked to bring: boots, waders, or sturdy water-friendly shoes appropriate for a creek clean-up; hat/sunscreen/bug spray, water bottle, and heavy work gloves for hauling large items such as tires.

To RSVP email Wendy Higbee at higbee@mindspring.com or call Katrina Newman at (770) 883-7996.
