Pastor Casts Vision for Liberty Hill

Jamey Prickett helps members find purpose, come alive.

is a congregation of single adults, young families with children, teenagers and baby boomers. A variety of ages and life stages are reflected.

To their pastor, Jamey Prickett, they represent “a church full of spiritual entrepreneurs.

“I’m a teacher by heart. I enjoy teaching people the Word, helping them cast their own visions and find what God’s calling them to do.”

Over the years, Liberty Hill has sprouted many nonprofit ministries, ventures that include the Latvian Angels adoption ministry, a back-to-school outreach called , and most recently, Forever Fed, a mobile program devoted to feeding the needy.

"Part of what I enjoy doing," Prickett said, "is challenging people to be what God wants them to be and really live that out, using their gifts and resources for that purpose,"

The Clermont, GA, native has earned a bachelor’s degree from Toccoa Falls College and a master of divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He served a church in Braselton for eight years before coming to Liberty Hill two years ago.

Just as he encourages his congregation to step out of the box, Prickett is practicing what he preaches. He and two other United Methodist ministers – the Rev. Chris Bryant of City on a Hill and the Rev. Eric Lee of in Cartersville - will switch pulpits over the next three Sundays.

Not bad for a man who grew up struggling with a speech impediment. Prickett went to speech therapy every day in elementary school, and weekly in middle school.

"So to think that God would use me as a public communicator was far from realistic," he said. "Having a speech impediment made me shy in front of others. Every time I stand to speak, I am in awe of what God can do in a person’s life that is surrendered to Him."

While he enjoys the teaching and preaching roles, what Prickett said he loves most about being a pastor is "seeing lives changed." He cherishes John 10:10, which talks about having an abundant life.

"That’s the vision I’ve given here at the church," he said. "We have a lot of people living but not living full of passion and in that spiritual abundance. I like to see people catching hold of that and coming alive."
