I'm actually pretty good at this. You have to be when you also have a dog. And, my dog is a bichon. But, it really came in handy when I was a Census worker a few summers ago. A HUGE dog of some sort got out the fence he was in, and sprinted toward me. I had two choices, start running and make the dog think this is game of chase, or start walking slower and ignore the dog. I wasn't sure if he was aggressive yet, but I also knew running could set the dog off. So, I kept walking. The dog circled my feet, wanted to jump on me, and then he just walked with me for several more houses before he got bored. I survived. The key is knowing dog behavior, and being able to act quickly in the best way. And NO sudden moves. This is where little children get into the most trouble.
