Julie...This digresses somewhat from the theme of the thread, but as you know 501(c)3 organizations are often used as fronts for for-profit organizations. The 501(c)3 collects money and then hires a related for-profit entity to provide management services. Even if the 501(c)3 doesn't hire a for-profit management firm, much of the money received by the 501(c)3 can be used for administrative salaries with little to none going to the charitable purpose. Think Cherokee Charter Academy!

Mr. Deal opened the door and will be showing discrimination and/or state support for a specific religion if he rejects the Atheists' offer. Too bad that Mr. Deal allowed his bias, possibly his own religious beliefs, and pandering to cloud his judgment.

If "any group is free to donate literature", where will he draw the line on literature and groups-- Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Southern Baptist, White Supremecist, or Tea Party? As long as it's free to the state, Deal will have it placed in each room. Under his thinking and belief, no one should have a problem with it since they wouldn't be forced to read it.

IMO...the state should be impartial and the rooms should be free of all religious materials. If a guest is so inclined to have a bible, they can bring their own, go to a store, or even the front desk and request one...But if the front desk offers bibles, they should also offer other texts.

R Patton...Your comment "if you don't want to see those bibles, GO SOME PLACE ELSE" is a perfect example what's wrong Gov. Deal's policy and the arguments by many of his supporters. These park facilities belong to the people of Georgia, all of the people, not just Christians. Evidently, you believe that people of non-Christian faith should just have to "deal with it" or go elsewhere. That's un-American and un-Constitutional!

To those who replied to my prior post and stating that it would be OK and reasonable to expect Korans in hotel rooms in a Muslim country, you fail to understand that we are not a Christian country. Instead, we are a country of many faiths that was founded by people with many faiths and even athiests. These wise founders realized that a sanctioned religion would be a detriment to what they were trying to create in this country.

  • On the article Should the Drunken Driving Limit Be Lowered?

Before making changes to the legal limit, let's see the statistics of accidents and fatalities by drivers in the .05 to .08 range. Let's also see the statistics of accidents and fatalities by drivers impaired by: talking on the phone, eating/drinking, lighting a cigarette, dealing with the kids in back, and simply being too old. Until I see the statistics, I believe that lower limits will simply allow greater revenues for the courts, state/cities/counties and insurance companies.

In the spirit of full disclosure: This is coming from a person who has roughly 6 alcohol drinks per year.

Bob...I'm not opposed to constructive reviews of anything including the attack on the Benghazi facility, the IRS, and AP. However, in respect to Benghazi and the IRS, the R focus is wrong. If the embassador requested additional security and was denied or if a rapid strike force could have been deployed in time but wasn't, then there'd be a problem. However, those aren't the issues being debated. What the R's are more interested in whether Obama's administration cleansed a report taking out references to Al Q'aida and trying to blame him for the attack. But take an objective view...If the ambassador knew that Benghazi was dangerous, why was he there and why didn't he bring security from the main embassy in Tripoli?

As to the IRS, the R focus is on linkin O to it and firing the acting IRS commissioner who wasn't in charge during the "affair". What the R's and D's should be focusing on is the use and abuse of 501(C)4 organizations for political purposes and adequate funding of the IRS.

FWIW...There were much bigger abuses directly tied to the Bush administration and White House than from the Obama administration.

Would you support the placing of a religious text in every room if the text were a Koran donated by a Muslim group? Do you think Governor Deal would order the placement of a Koran in every room? If not, then it is a state-endorsement of a specific religion.

Lastly, if someone wants a bible don't you think they'd bring there copy?

This post is supposed to be about medical costs, not Obamacare. Let's stay on point.

In respect to medical care, yes, we all pay too much and receive poor service. If you compare our per capita spending to the rest of the industrialized world, we pay double or triple what they pay for the same level of service (and often we receive worse service). Now I know many of you think socialized medicine is inferior to the US model, but it isn't. Consider this, We're a country of 310 million with capitalist medicine. The industrialized world with socialized medicine is 1-2 billion. If socialized medicine were so bad, they'd be converting to our model but they aren't.

Our model is so screwed up and unless you've had a major medical issue, you don't truly understand the true scope of the problems. In network/out-of network cost differences are extreme and if you mistakenly go out-of-network, you're going bankrupt! We took our child to the hospital (it was in network), but the doctors who treated him in that hospital were out-of-network. Guess what, the bills were huge and no insurance discount. It took my wife 3 years and two 3 inch binders to get the billing straight.

As to Obamacare, there is too much misinformation being thrown around. Businesses aren't closing because of Obamacare and the only aspect of Obamacare that people don't like is the mandate. But if you're already responsible, you already have insurance and the mandate won't affect you.

The Republican party loves to make mountains out of mole hills! The latest is this supposed Obama conspiracy to delay conservative, right-wing, organizations their tax-exempt status. Let's look at the facts:

    1. The IRS is staffed mainly by career professionals. There are 1 or 2 political appointees in the IRS.
    2. The chief political appointee during the time period in question was a Republican appointee by none other than GWB.
    3. Of the 298 cases reviewed by the IRS inspector general, only 96 included the conservative buzz words of "tea party", "9/12" or "patriot"...that's less than a third. Two-thirds of the cases were selected for other reasons.
    4. The IRS is charged with granting 501(c)4 status to appropriate organizations. With limited funding & staffing, profiling is a shortcut...How many of you would support profiling of Hispanics and Arabs? (Be honest!)
    5. The Inspector General report indicates that the policies originated in the IRS, not outside. (Maybe the Inspector General is a co-conspirator, a Democrat or being paid to lie.)

This is just another distraction to prevent the President from pushing policies to get America back on track and to keep Congress grid-locked. There are much more important things that Boehner and friends should be doing than Benghazi and 501(c)4 BS.

I don't care whether Jerry Cooper is a campaign manager for Bob Barr or anyone else. What I do care about is that Jerry Cooper was the Cherokee County Manager during the entire Jimmy Bobo fiasco and it was his department that had been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the financial dealings. Mr. Cooper failed miserably and should be held accountable for his actions and lack thereof!

Mr. Bryan, let me see if I understand you correctly...Mr. Cain's sewer line was installed over 20-30 years ago and recently needed repairs. The city, way back then when memories were fresh thought that the line was a city line and performed routine and emergency maintenance. Now 20-30 years later, you think that it was an improperly installed private sewer line?

I don't know all the facts and to be honest, I don't really care. My point is that after 20-30 years you're trying to revise history and worse, throw Mr. Cain under the bus for speaking his mind about other subjects.

I agree with many others that Mr. Woods is a problem and should be dealt with. Anyone in public employment and public service who thinks they're entitled like Mr. Woods is a joke. His video encounter with the police officer is a disgrace.
