Walton Wins Over Cherokee

Cherokee tries to spoil Waltons Homecoming night, but comes up short.

Under the lights in Raider Valley produced a foggy night and a Walton victory over Cherokee 21 to 7. Walton took the opening drive friday night and scored first when Raider Quarterback Parker McLeod (#12) threw a TD pass to Henry Rowling (#30).  The Raiders added another score in the second quarter when the higly touted Running Back Tyren Jones (#1) ran one in to make it 14-0.  Cherokee Warriors drove the ball well in the second quarter themselves, threatening to score just before halftime until a fumble on the Walton 3 yard line spoiled the drive. Creekview Places 4th at Walton Duals

The Grizzlies went 3-2 at Walton.

The Walton High Duals was bound to be a challenge for the Creekview wrestling team. With a hole in the lineup at the 126-pound weight class, and upperclassmen out with injuries, everybody had to step up. The freshmen had an outstanding showing, winning a combined 15 matches. Freshmen Nate Bridges (113 pounds) and Brock Tupman (220) went 4-1. Bridges had three pins out of five matches. After a 43-29 victory over Walton, the Grizzlies fell to Loganville 31-41. Creekview's third round against Tift came down to the last match. After falling behind early, the Grizzlies battled back from a 28-32 deficit to take the match 34-32 with a pin from junior Justin Pettyjohn (160). We're down to 20 teams and 10 games in the Georgia High School Association's football playoffs.

Update: We apologize for the technical difficulties we experienced Friday night and this morning, but the scoreboard is complete now. The matchups for the Georgia Dome next week are Walton vs. Grayson, AAAAA; Lovejoy vs. Tucker, AAAA; Burke County vs. Peach County, AAA; Calhoun vs. Buford, AA; and Savannah Christian vs. Landmark Christian, A. The 2011 Georgia High School Association football playoffs move into the semifinals tonight, one game from the Georgia Dome, and we'll bring you all the scores as quickly as we can.
