The single vehicle accident occurred Thursday afternoon just north of Canton
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a single vehicle accident that took the life of a Jasper man in Cherokee County. The accident occurred along Highway 140 near Sam Nelson Road between Canton and Waleska Thursday afternoon. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident around 4:45 p.m. and found 28-year-old Guy Russell Railing, Jr outside the vehicle. Gordy Wright, a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson, said Railing lost control of the vehicle while "negotiating" a curve and veered off the road. The car then struck an embankment and overturned multiple times. Railing was ejected from the car. The accident occurred near the entrance of the Georgia National Cemetery west of Canton.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of seven-vehicle accident that occured Friday morning on Highway 20/Knox Bridge Highway near the entrance of the Georgia National Cemetery. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the call at 10:30 a.m. and when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they discovered the accident involved Kia Optima, a BMW, Toyota Scion, Nissan Maxima, a Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla and a Ford pickup truck. The Kia, BMW and Toyota Corolla had major damage and the remaining vehicles sustained minor damages. However, drivers and passengers in the vehicles only received minor injuries. A motorcycle collided with a minivan on Lower Bethany Road north of Canton Friday night.
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday night in northern Cherokee County. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened around 8:40 p.m. Friday on Lower Bethany Road near Hornage Road north of Canton in the Clayton community. A motorcycle traveling southbound on Lower Bethany Road veered into the northbound lane and struck a Chrysler Town and Country minivan on the left side of the vehicle. Trooper Brown (who did not want to provide his first name) said the driver of the motorcycle suffered head and leg injuries. Winston Keith Wiggins, 45, of Woodstock, faces DUI, fleeing and eluding police, speeding and aggravated assault charges after allegedly running a Bartow County road block.
Authorities say a Woodstock man ran a road block Saturday night in Bartow County, leading officers on chase that ended in a crash in Cobb County. Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Winston Keith Wiggins, 45, was arrested after he allegedly failed to stop at Old Alabama and Bates roads near Emerson where troopers and Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies were conducting a license check. The Waleska woman who died in a one-car accident Saturday afternoon will be laid to rest tomorrow. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel inside South Canton Funeral Home for Cortney Jade King, 24, who died from injuries she suffered in a one-car accident along Highway 108/Fincher Road near Ammons Road just east of Waleska. She will be buried at Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking contributions be made to the funeral home to help with expenses. A one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Waleska woman early Saturday afternoon, but spared the life of a child passenger. The Georgia State Patrol responded to a single car crash around 1:35 p.m. on Highway 108/Fincher Road near Ammons Road east of Waleska where a 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle had run off the road and hit several trees. GSP Spokesperson Gordy Wright said the driver, identified as 24-year-old Cortney Jade King, was traveling eastbound when her vehicle ran off the road. Georgia State Troopers have investigated more crashes during this New Year's holiday than last year, with injuries rising above New Year's 2012 levels, and almost as many deaths – six so far this year, compared to seven last year . The GSP investigated three of the fatal traffic accidents, with local agencies investigating the other three. Troopers have investigated 585 accidents as of daybreak today, Jan. 1, which included 266 injuries and three deaths. During last year's entire 102-hour holiday, the Department of Public Safety investigated 296 accidents. Those accidents included 172 injuries and 7 deaths. The man, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Paul Mitcheltree, was fatally hit Thursday morning while walking along East Cherokee Drive.
A pedestrian was hit and killed Thursday morning along one of Cherokee County's busiest thoroughfares. Brandon Paul Mitcheltree, 19, of Canton, was fatally struck this morning shortly before 7 a.m. while walking along East Cherokee Drive near Berry Patch Road, Georgia State Patrol Spokesperson Gordy Wright said. State troopers responded to the scene of the accident at 6:51 a.m., which occurred near the Hickory Flat community. Mitcheltree was walking southbound with traffic in the travel lane when a PT Cruiser, driven by Joseph Michael Homesley, 21 of Canton, rounded a curve and hit Mitchelpree, Wright added.
