Creekview Wrestling has placed higher than ever before as a team and as individuals. 5 Grizzlies make it on the podium.
This team is special. Most of the season, they have been short two or three wrestlers but they still get the job done. This season they sent 9 wrestlers to State Placed 4th in AAAAA - 1st time in the top 5 Placed 5 individual wrestlers (past record is 3) Sent a wrestler to the finals for the first time The Macon Centreplex was filled with Division 1A through Division 6AAAAAA wrestlers Thursday through Saturday last weekend. Every one of them ready to battle for a State title. Sectionals in Loganville Georgia produced Creekview's largest crop of State finalists in Grizzly history
Just like last week at Regionals, you have to win and place, or go home. Only the top 8 from each weight class in the East would advance to meet the top 8 in the West. The GHSA State Tournament is in Macon, Georgia on February 14th, 15th, and 16th. The Grizzlies took 12 wrestlers out of a possible 14 to Loganville and came out with a record 9 Georgia State qualifiers. Ryan Camp (106 lbs), Grant Slater (113), Justin Goss (120), Justin Pettyjohn (152), Hunter Smith (160), Hunter Udall (170), Joseph Sorrentino (182), Logan Ridings (195) and Brock Tupman (285). 11 teams battled at Pope High School for the right to advance to the State Team 7AAAAA Duals in Macon, GA. Only two would make it to the state tournament.
Coming back from Christmas break, the Grizzlies had to finish in the top two at Region Duals or go home. State Duals, held in Macon Georgia, are only for the best two in each region. Creekview finished in second after four hard fought battles. The first match was Sprayberry: The Grizzlies were in control from start to finish and came out on top with a 57-24 win. Brock Tupman (285 lbs), Ryan Camp (106), Grant Slater (113), Justin Goss (120), Austin Collett (145), and Hunter Udall (170) all had pins to start things out right. The match against Cambridge was an unexpected challenge. The Creekview season opener against the Bears was a relatively easy win. Wednesday marked the opening of the season for Creekview Grizzlies wrestling. They were hosted by the Cambridge Bears who were defeated 52-20 by Creekview.
The Grizzlies looked strong in their season opener against the Bears. Sophmore Justin Goss (Weight 126 lbs) started off with a pin over Ryan Hoff. After a close contest that resulted in a 2-0 loss for Senior Michael Edwards (138lbs), Creekview swept the middle weights with pins by Austin Collett (145lbs), Justin Pettyjohn (152lbs), Hunter Smith (160lbs) and Michael Crafton (170lbs). Christian Saragusa (220lbs) picked the action back up with a pin in 32 seconds over Edward Aganou of Cambridge. Brock Tupman (285lbs) battled heavyweight Kryshna Tanksley for almost three full periods to get the pin at 5:34. Freshman Ryan Camp (106lbs) easily defeated Jared Kelly with a pin in 41 seconds followed by a major decision by Grizzly Freshman Grant …
