Winter Storm Watch: An Inch of Snow Possible

A winter storm could switch widespread rain to snowflakes on Thursday, but little to no accumulations are expected in Canton, according The National Weather Service.

Winter storms are possible in Canton and across north Georgia on Thursday and into Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a winter storm watch for the area. Meteorologists say widespread rain should switch over to the white stuff sometime Thursday afternoon or evening, but the heaviest snowfall would be in the north Georgia mountains. The winter storm watch—in effect for Cherokee and other counties from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning—means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Locations north of a line from Carrollton to Atlanta to Jefferson could see an inch or less of snow, while accumulations in the northeast and northwest Georgia …

Survey: GA Increasingly Prepared for Disaster

Annual Ready Georgia survey shows increases among key demographics, including households with children, African-Americans and Hispanics.

The next time a tornado touches down or a severe winter storm sweeps across the state, Georgians are more likely to have the tools and resources they need to survive the potential disaster. Those are the findings of a new statewide survey of Georgia residents which reveals increased preparedness rates among key demographics including Hispanics, African-Americans, males, single residents and households with children. Commissioned by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security’s (GEMA) Ready Georgia campaign, the annual survey helps to gauge public preparedness levels.
