Woman, 27, Trapped, Flown to Hospital After Morning Accident in Canton

"Apparently, a Chevy S-10 pickup truck left the highway, went down an embankment and struck some trees," fire spokesman Tim Cavender said.

An unidentified 27-year-old woman was flown to Atlanta Medical Center this morning with abdominal pain and other injuries after a single vehicle accident in Canton. Shortly after 9 a.m., Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services found a truck near the intersection of Sam Nelson Road and Highway 108 and the woman trapped inside. "Apparently, a Chevy S-10 pickup truck left the highway, went down an embankment and struck some trees," fire spokesman Tim Cavender said. Though the woman had to be removed from the vehicle and suffered injuries to her left arm and leg from the vehicle, her condition was stable at last check, Cavender said. Hwy. 140 Reopens After Accident

When Cherokee County Fire and Emergency crews arrived on the scene at 2:30 a.m., they discovered the driver of a tractor-trailer trapped in his truck.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused an early morning accident that temporarily shut down Highway 140, near the Cherokee-Bartow County line. When Cherokee County Fire and Emergency crews arrived on the scene at 2:30 a.m., they discovered the driver of a tractor-trailer trapped in his truck. Battalion Chief Dan Floyd said the truck was "on a steep embankment with the driver’s side on the "down hill" side of the bank," which "hampered efforts to gain access to the driver. "He was literally trapped in this truck that was about 20 feet over a creek. The driver was conscious and talking to rescue personnel during the extrication process."
