House District 21 Voters Pick Turner or Laurens Today

Today is Election Day for the Georgia House District 21 run-off between Republicans Scot Turner and Brian Laurens.

Today is the culumination of nearly two months of campaining for the Georgia House District 21 seat. Voters in the district will vote in today's run-off election between Republicans Scot Turner and Brian Laurens. The district encompasses Holly Springs, portions of BridgeMill, south Canton and parts of southeast Cherokee.  Eleven precincts will be open today for early voting: Air Acres, Arnold Mill, Avery, BridgeMill, Hickory Flat, Holly Springs, Liberty, Mountain Road, Teasley, Toonigh and Wildcat.  Residents can check the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page to view the status of their voter registration and to see if they live in the district. Beach Keeps Jobs as Top Priority as a State Senator

Once the special election for Georgia Senate District 21 is certified, the North Fulton chamber president anticipates jumping right into his new "part-time" job.

Jobs, jobs, jobs. That continues to be Brandon Beach's mantra now that he is the apparent winner of the Georgia Senate District 21 seat after Tuesday's special election. "I'm going to work on what I said I was going to work on before the campaign: Foster an atmosphere that is a conducive environment to jobs, jobs, jobs," Beach said a day after the special election to fill a vacancy created when Chip Rogers quit before he even started what was to be his next term.  "We need lower taxes and less regulation. Early Voting In Special Election Starts Dec. 17

The deadline to register to vote in the election is Dec. 14.

Early voting in the Jan. 8, 2013 special election to fill the state House District 21 and Senate District 21 seats will begin next week.  Voting will get underway from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17-21 at the Stone Elections Building in downtown Canton. Early voting will continue Dec. 27-28, on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2-4, 2013, during those same hours. No early voting on Saturdays will be scheduled.  The office will be closed Dec. 24-26 and on Jan. 1 for the holidays.  The deadline to register to vote in the election is at the close of business on Friday.  Only voters in the 29 out of 42 county precincts that cover both seats can cast ballots for the election. Brandon Beach Formally Qualifies For Senate Race

Beach qualified on Monday to run for the Georgia Senate District 21 seat.

  Greater North Fulton Chamber President & CEO Brandon Beach on Monday formally qualified to run for the Georgia Senate District 21 seat.  "The citizens of District 21 need a committed, consistent, conservative leader, with a proven track record of accomplishment representing them in the State Senate," Beach said in a statement after qualifying. Beach will take on State Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Holly Springs), who announced his intentions last week to qualify and run for the senate seat, which was vacated by former Senator Chip Rogers.  Jerguson has to also resign from the House District 21 seat he was reapportioned into and subsequently won in the Nov. 6 general election. Qualifying Set For State House, Senate Races

Qualifying for candidates will start on Monday.

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp has scheduled qualifying for candidates to formally enter the state House District 21 and Senate District 21 races.  Qualifying will begin Monday Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 11 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday Dec. 12.  Qualifying will take place at the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, 802 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive Southeast in Atlanta. The fee to qualify for both seats is $400.  Polls for the race will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 8, 2013, and voters who wish to cast ballots in the special election must register by the close of business day on Tuesday Dec. 11.  All persons who are not …
