GDOT Issues Inclement Weather Road Advisory

GDOT is urging motorists to monitor weather conditions in advance with the possibility of light snow and icy roadways expected Thursday and Friday in areas of North Georgia.

Weather forecasts for areas of north Georgia and Canton are calling for rain and snow, and possibly black ice accumulations on roadways as far south as Columbus beginning Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Due to the expected inclement weather, the Georgia Department of Transportation urges motorists to plan ahead before traveling during this timeframe and check weather and road conditions before heading out. “We are continuously monitoring current weather conditions and forecasts as snow flurries and high winds are predicted for north Georgia," said Keith Golden, Georgia DOT Commissioner. Sledding Accident Leaves Boy in Critical Condition

Details are still emerging about the accident that put a 9-year-old in the hospital.

A sledding accident has put a local boy in the hospital in critical condition. The accident happened Monday around noon when a 9-year-old sledded under a parked car, said Tim Cavender with the Cherokee County Fire Department. The accident happened in the 200 block of Woodview Lane, just south of Holly Springs, and left the boy with facial and head injuries. He was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Scottish Rite hospital in Sandy Springs.   Check back with Patch for developing details about this story.
