Accident Kills Canton Man

Jason Denny's convertible struck a retaining wall on Hickory Flat Highway early this morning, authorities said.

A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office spokesman said speed may have been a factor in a single vehicle crash that killed a 36-year-old Canton man early this morning. Lt. Jay Baker said deputies were called to the scene of an accident at Hickory Flat Highway and Cherokee Overlook Drive in Canton at 1:50 a.m. Jason Denny died instantly when his Saab convertible struck a retaining wall as he drove west on Hickory Flat Highway, he said. There were no passengers in the vehicle. The Traffic Enforcement Unit's investigation is ongoing, Baker said, but preliminary findings show that speed may have played a role in the crash.
