Downtown Kitchen Wins

Next week, we'll ask for your favorite staycation destinations.

All week, Cracker Barrel appeared to be your pick for favorite Mother's Day brunch spot in ZIP code 30114. But this morning, with less than an hour left before this week's Readers' Choice poll closed, a fan of Downtown Kitchen voted, giving the popular eatery an equal number of votes as Cracker Barrel. To break the tie, we looked at reviews for each restaurant in Patch's free business directory. Remember: It's not enough to just vote in Canton-Sixes Patch's weekly Readers' Choice poll. You must also leave a review of your favorite business because we give equal weight to votes and comments. Downtown Kitchen received a 5-star rating, while Cracker Barrel received a negative review. In the end, Downtown Kitchen won. While Downtown Kitchen …

That's exactly why Downtown Kitchen was included on the list. It is one of the few local eateries that will be open on Mother's Day. We try to highlight local establishments as opposed to large chains that can be found anywhere.   more ›

Last Buffet for Ryan's Steakhouse

One of 81 Buffets Inc. locations closed in a bankruptcy restructuring agreement, the Canton restaurant employed 35 to 50 people.

Considered underperforming, Canton's Ryan's Family Steakhouse is among the restaurants shuttered in a Buffets Inc. bankruptcy reorganization. Spokesman Nathan Riggs said the local restaurant, which closed last night with a bankruptcy court filing known as a lease rejection motion, employed 35 to 50 full- and part-time managers and staff. Its unemployment rate dropping to 7.7 percent in November from 8.4 percent the previous month, Cherokee County just marked a milestone with more than 100,000 residents employed. A total of about 3,000 Buffets employees nationwide lost their jobs as the company closed 81 of its restaurants. While workers can apply for open positions at Buffets' nearby restaurants, a severance program is in place for those …

This is sad news...the company may be based in Minnesota, but the people losing jobs are right here in Georgia. I know here in Kennesaw bankruptcy (www.eastcobbbankruptcy.com/resources/cities/kennesaw) filings have been at an all-time high. And Georgia's rate of poverty is third in the nation. Closings like these are becoming a matter of course around here.   more ›

Song's Garden

This Woodstock eatery offers delicious, MSG-free takeout food.

Song’s Garden Overview: Song’s Garden is a Woodstock restaurant with a healthy spin on Chinese takeout food. Its menu covers dishes from Szechuan, Hunan and Cantonese cuisines, much like the restaurants in New York City. Décor: The kitchen is open for you to see the staff cook your food in front of you. Entrees: The menu is diverse, offering combination platters, fried rice, lo mein and menus for special diets. I absolutely love the steamed dumplings, which are so tender. You can tell they are handmade, not out of a bag. The restaurant also has a wonderful house special soup as well as a sweet-and-sour combination plate. Song's Garden does not use MSG, which makes the food healthier than the kind you usually find in takeout restaurants. …
