High winds, lightning and a chance of an isolated tornado are expected to move into the area Thursday afternoon.
Canton residents will be greeted with a chance of severe storms in the midst of rush hour traffic on Thursday. Heavy rains, high winds and a chance of tornadoes will move into Canton, Cherokee County and northern Georgia Thursday afternoon, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. "A cold front will approach the state on Thursday (and) then move across the state Thursday night," NWS states. "Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of the front, and confidence continues to increase that isolated severe storms will accompany this frontal system." A storm front that is expected to bring lightning and strong winds will soon be upon Canton and the Cherokee County area.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Cherokee County. The watch, which will expire at 9 p.m. Tuesday, mentions the possibility of severe weather, including thunderstorms and high winds. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office expects the period of severe weather to last from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Strong thunderstorms could bring down trees or cause other damage to property. As of this moment, there is no indication that any of these storms are capable of creating tornadoes.

The frozen stuff could begin overnight Thursday, forecasts say.
The threat of severe weather for Canton and Cherokee County is looming again. According to the National Weather Service, there is a "chance" of freezing rain overnight Thursday (January 24) and "likely" for Friday (January 25) before 4 p.m. Also, winds could reach 15 mph. Following a warm weekend in the 70s, Georgia is set for rain, cooler temps and maybe even a blast of cold air from the north. A rainy Monday and Tuesday accompany cooler weather and a cold front, as it moves from out west to the east by midweek, according to The Weather Channel. It's not yet clear how far south the cold air would reach as the jet stream dips. Forecasters give Canton a 100 percent chance of rain on Monday, when the high is expected to reach 58, and 80 percent chance on Tuesday with a high of 55, according to the National Weather Service. The winds will blow on Wednesday, so watch out for falling tree limbs blowing debris and be extra careful driving if you have a high-profile vehicle. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a wind advisory from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Wednesday. UPDATED 7 a.m. Dec. 25: The National Weather Service extended the dense fog advisory for another hour, until 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25. A dense fog advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, with widespread visibilities of one-quarter mile or less, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City. The low visibilities will make driving hazardous. If driving, slow down and use low-beam headlights. Leave plenty of distance ahead of you.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning today effective till 7 p.m. Cherokee County is under critical fire weather conditions that could cause rapid spread and aggressive behavior if a fire should develop. This warning is because of low relative humidity, gusty winds and dry fuels. Today's forecast is sunny with a high of 64 degrees, and gusts of wind that can get up to 25 mph. The humidity is between 15 to 25 percent. Also make sure to protect your plants tonight because the NWS has also issued a Frost Advisory from 2 to 10 a.m. Thursday.
