Bicyclist Struck by Truck Dies

The man was struck near the Canton Marketplace on Jan. 5.

The man who was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle on Cumming Highway two weekends ago has passed away, friends of the man say. Louis "Bud" Phillips, 66, died from his injuries on Jan. 14, nine days after being struck by a Chevrolet pick up truck traveling westbound on Cumming Highway near the Interstate 575 on-ramp. Phillips was life flighted to Kennestone Hospital, where he was in a coma on life support in the Intensive Care Unit until his passing. The driver of the truck did not flee the scene and was not charged with a crime for hitting Phillips, according to the Canton Police Department. Bicyclist Struck by Truck, in Critical Condition

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on Cumming Highway near Interstate 575.

A Canton man is in critical condition at Kennestone Hospital after being struck by a truck while riding his bicycle Saturday afternoon. According to a Canton Police Department press release, Louis Phillips, 66, was struck by a Chevrolet pick up truck traveling west on Cumming Highway at 4:51 p.m. on Jan. 5. The accident occurred near the on-ramp to northbound Interstate 575. The driver of the truck did not flee the scene, according to Canton Police Lt. Jeff Tucker. Phillips was life flighted to Kennestone Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to authorities. Stay with Canton-Sixes Patch as new information becomes available.
