The church wants to build a new facility in Woodstock.
A proposal to build a church in the Ridgewalk area has been deemed in the best interest of the region by the state. Canton-based Watermarke Church's Developments of Regional Impact application submitted in September by the city of Woodstock to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs has been completed and the department has signed off on the plans. With the ruling in hand, the church is now moving forward with its proposal to build 250,000 square feet of buildings, which would include about 2,400 parking spaces. Northpoint Ministries, the developer and affiliate of Watermarke Church, has filed a variance request with the city of Woodstock for 32.5 acres on the south side of Ridgewalk Parkway between Ridge Trail and the Georgia …

Billy Peppers' last day will be on Nov. 30.
Woodstock officials want to wait before diving into the search to replace its director of economic services. City Manager Jeff Moon said he plans to move slower on the quest to fill Billy Peppers' shoes. Peppers announced Wednesday that he will stepping down as the city's director of economic services. His last day with the city will be on Nov. 30 and he will start his new position with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Cherokee County has added nearly 150 new jobs since Jan. 1, 2012, and more are on the way now that businesses in Canton's Technology Ridge area can take advantage of new tax credits. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs recently approved the county's request to designate the area, which includes parts of Riverstone, the Bluffs, and the Canton-Cherokee Business & Industrial Park, as an opportunity zone, according to a March 29 report in the Cherokee Tribune. It’s the second opportunity zone designation awarded to Cherokee. The southwest part of the county near Highway 92 is the first.
