Attorney Bill Fincher of Canton has ended his short bid for the Georgia House District 21 seat.
A second candidate for the Georgia House District 21 seat has cut short his bid to become Cherokee County's newest elected official. Bill Fincher, who serves as an assistant district attorney for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, has dropped out of the race to replace State Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Holly Springs), Cherokee County Elections Supervisor Janet Munda confirmed this morning. Jerguson resigned the seat he was reapportion into and subsequently won in the Nov. 6 general election to seek the vacant Georgia Senate District 21 seat, which also became vacant after former Woodstock Senator Chip Rogers abruptly resigned. Hickory Flat resident Eduardo Correia does not live in House District 21, the seat he qualified to run for in the Jan. 8, 2013 special election.
The number of candidates running for the Georgia House District 21 seat is now down to five. Eduardo Correia, who registered on Tuesday to run as an independent for the house seat being vacated by State Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Holly Springs), has withdrawn from the race. Correia does not live in the district, which makes him ineligible to run for the seat. Cherokee County Elections Supervisor Janet Munda said it was early Wednesday morning when she noticed "he didn’t live in the district." Munda said she contacted Correia to inform him of the discrepancy and he subsequently backed out of the race. State Rep. Sean Jerguson formally qualified to run for the Georgia Senate District 21 seat while a Hickory Flat resident formally jumped into the Georgia House District 21 seat.
Two more candidates qualified today to run in the Jan. 8, 2013, special election to fill two Georgia General Assembly seats. State Rep. Sean Jerguson qualified today to formally start campaigning for the Georgia Senate District 21 seat, which is now vacant due to the abrupt resignation of former Senator Chip Rogers. His challenger, Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Brandon Beach, qualified for the seat yesterday. Eduardo Correia, who lives in Hickory Flat, also qualified to run for the Georgia House District 21 seat, which Jerguson had to resign from in order to run for the senate.
