Wrestlers Compete This Weekend

Find out what's coming up on Canton-Sixes Patch today and what you might have missed overnight.

1. The City Council meets tonight at 6. We'll have live video coverage during the meeting, and make sure you check back Friday morning at 5 a.m. for a recap of the meeting. 2. Wrestlers from Cherokee and Creekview High Schools head to the state tournament on Thursday. The competition runs through the weekend. 3. State House District 21 candidate Scot Turner has raised $10,000 for his campaign, reaching his goal of hitting that mark by Valentine's Day. Turner has pledged not to take contributions from lobbyists, political action committees and non-Georgia residents. State Rep. 13 Local Wrestlers Head to State Tournament

Athletes from Cherokee and Creekview will compete in the event this weekend at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

A number of local high school athletes are set to vie for state titles in the Georgia High School Association's Traditional Wrestling State Championships, set for Thursday to Saturday. All wrestlers who competed in the sectionals for the two schools advanced to the state tournament, according to the Cherokee Tribune. Headed to the Arena at Gwinnett Center for eight rounds culminating in the finals, according to GHSA, are:  WSB-TV is set to televise the finals Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. and on METV on Comcast 248 or Charter 127 from 6 to 7 p.m. GHSA.tv will live video stream all 14 weight class finals on each of the five, A to AAAAA, classifications' championship mats.
