UPDATE: Alleged Handgun-Wielding Suspect Arrested; House Cleared

The Canton Police Department says that the house in the Hillcrest subdivision did not contain a suspect and that the man who was spotted brandishing a firearm was arrested.

UPDATE (8:00 p.m.): The Canton Police Department and Cherokee Sheriff's office have conducted a sweep and cleared the house in the Hillcrest subdivision once thought to contain a man fleeing from police. According to an updated statement from the department, the man originally reported to be brandishing a firearm outside the Laurels of Greenwood apartment complex at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday was arrested in the vicinity of the home in question as authorities were investigating the home itself. The department has identified the arrested person 17-year-old Damiem Fowler of Canton. He has been charged with obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers and is currently being held at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center. Investigators believe that …

Andrea Blanton was initially charged with concealing her father's death, but an autopsy found he died of strangulation.

A Ball Ground woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her father after Cherokee County sheriff's deputies discovered his decomposed body inside the home. Andrea Blanton, 45, remains at at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond after she was arrested Thursday morning for the crime. Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office on Tuesday were dispatched to 515 Northridge Road to perform a welfare check on James Reece, 77.  Authorities located Reece, who appeared to have been dead for several days, according to Cherokee Sheriff's Office Spokesman Lt. Officers from the Canton Police Department and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office are scouring the area searching for the suspect.

UPDATE (1:40 p.m.): The Canton Police Department has released more information about the attempted kidnapping outside the First Baptist Church in Canton. According to a department release, an adult woman was walking on the sidewalk of Reservoir Drive near the church when a man exited the woodline near the sidewalk and approached her. The woman told authorities that the man threatened to abduct her, and was allegedly carrying a hand gun. The woman immediately crossed the street, flagged down a passing motorist, and called 911. UPDATE: Courthouse Bomb Threats - Someone in Custody

Cobb County authorities have someone in custody in connection with today's bomb threats made at courthouses in Cobb and Cherokee counties.

UPDATE (1:25 p.m.): Authorities in Cobb County are saying that a person is in custody in the wake of today's bomb threats, which caused evacuations at the Cherokee Justice Center and the Cobb County Courthouse.  "We've got somebody in custody," Col. Milton Beck said to Marietta Patch. A press conference with the Cobb County Sheriff and Marietta police chief will be held later this afternoon. UPDATE (12:35 p.m.): The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has completed its sweep of the Cherokee Justice Center and the historic courthouse, and found no proof of a bomb threat that was called in against both buildings earlier this afternoon. Former Atlanta Braves Center Fielder Otis Nixon Arrested in Cherokee

Nixon, 54, has been charged with felony possession of cocaine after he was arrested along I-575 near the Airport Road interchange.

Former Atlanta Brave Otis Nixon is in trouble with the law. The former center-fielder for the Braves was arrested just after midnight on Saturday for felony possession of cocaine and possession of a drug-related object, according to a police report from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.  He remains at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $11,880 bond. Nixon, who had a 66-year-old female passenger in the truck with him, was pulled over after Cherokee County dispatchers put out a be-on-the-lookout for a possible intoxicated driver traveling in a red Dodge Ram truck northbound on Interstate 575. Two Dogs Join Cherokee Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit

The two dogs replace recently retired K-9s.

Two of man's best friends have joined the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office's K-9 Unit. K-9 Dixon, handled by Deputy Darin Downey, was released from training and started full-time work with the agency earlier this year. Dixon was named in memory of Canton teenager Collins Dixon, who inspired so many people before his passing in January 2012. Dixon replaced K-9 Rico, who served with the agency for 7 years. K-9 Maxim joined the force in late 2012 and is handled by Sgt. Matt Azaroff. K-9 Maxim replaced K-9 Marco, who served with the agency for 9 years. The new dogs were purchased with seized drug funds. Cherokee Detectives Identify Two Suspects in RaceTrac Cigarette Robbery

While two suspects have been identified in the March 27 robbery in Canton, a third man remains unknown.

While two Atlanta men have been identified as the suspects in the March 27 robbery of RaceTrac on Marietta Highway near I-575 in Canton, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office still needs the public to help them identify the third suspect in the case. Detectives have secured arrest warrants for Larry Hightower, 33, and Marcus Dominique Strozier, 21, who both hail from Atlanta. Both men are wanted for robbery and false imprisonment. Hightower is currently behind bars at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center for violation of probation charges while Strozier and the third unidentified suspect have not been located.
