Cherokee Aquatic Center Ribbon Cutting on Thursday

Officials will hold a ribbon cutting for the facility at 10 a.m. and a grand opening on Saturday.

Cherokee County leaders and stakeholders will be on hand to celebrate the opening of the much anticipated Cherokee County Aquatic Center. The ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the facility on Gresham Mill Parkway in Holly Springs. The grand opening and open house is slated for 10 am. to 8 p.m. Saturday.  Hours of operation and admission prices have been posted on the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency's website. Residents can still register for swim lessons as well as for their children to participate in the aquatic center's first swim season.  The center will consist of 48,000 indoor facility, and an 18,000 square foot outdoor leisure pool and deck area. Threat of Rain Cancels Cherokee Recreation's Touch-A-Truck

The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency has rescheduled the event for October.

With rain threatening to drench Cherokee County this weekend, the 8th annual Touch-A-Truck event held by the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency has been cancelled. The agency has rescheduled the event for 10 a.m. Saturday Oct. 5 at CRPA's Recreation Center, said CRPA Recreation Coordinator Kate Borden. The center is located at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. The free event is for children to come out and explore a slew of vehicles available on site including fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, motorcycles, race cars, dump trucks and recycling trucks. Cherokee Aquatic Center Swim Season Starts in May

Residents can now sign their children up for the inaugural summer swim team season, which runs from May 6th to July 11th.

With the opening of the Cherokee County Aquatic Center just days away, residents can now sign their children up to participate in the center's swim season. The cost is $115 and includes practices, regular season meets, a swim cap and team T-shirt. Registration can be done online or in person at the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency's offices at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. Cherokee Aquatic Center Accepting Applications for Swim Lessons

The aquatic center is set to open in the summer and residents can now register for swimming lessons.

The long awaited aquatic center is now accepting applications for swim lessons at the new facility. The aquatic center, located on Gresham Mill Parkway just off Sixes Road near Interstate 575, is set to open in the summer and residents who want to take swimming lessons at the center can now register online or at the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency's offices in Woodstock.    "We believe that swimming is a necessary life skill that every child should be comfortable doing, and we would love for your children to come learn with us," the agency states in a press release  They will offer classes for all ages ranging from 6 months to adulthood, and for all skill levels. Cherokee Sheriff, Fire Chief Donate To Child Advocacy Organization

Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison and Cherokee County Fire Chief Tim Prather recently presented a check totaling over $2,000 to CASA Cherokee.

Cherokee County's two public safety agencies have come together to help less fortunate children in the community.  Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Chief Tim Prather presented Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, Cherokee with a check totaling $2,680 on Thursday.  The money was raised by the Cherokee Parks and Recreation through its annual Guns and Hoses 5K, which was held in February. CASA is an organization made up of community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children who are placed in foster care due to abuse or neglect. These volunteers ensure that the safety and well-being children are promoted in juvenile court child protection proceedings. They advocate …

Report: More Than 2 Million People Visited Cherokee Parks Last Year

The 2012 Annual Report by the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency will be presented today to the Cherokee County Commission.

There were 2.2 million people who visited and participated in parks and recreation services offered by the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency between January and September 2012. That's according to a report that will be presented by the agency during the Cherokee County Commission's work session at 3 p.m. today at the county administration building in Canton. The report only covers the county's shortened budget calendar year for 2012, which spanned between January and September 2012. The county last year transitioned to a fiscal year system that will run between Oct. 1 and Sept. 30.  By comparison, the county had 1.9 million visits during the same nine month period in 2011.  Other highlights from the report include: See the attached .PDF…

More runners needed for 'Guns & Hoses' Charity Run

The annual Guns & Hoses 5K will be held Feb. 16.

The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency would like to see more participants in its seventh annual Guns & Hoses 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. The agency, which is teaming up with the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office for the event, had 650 runners last year and hope to reach 700 to participate during the event on Saturday Feb. 16.  CRPA currently has 234 runners signed up for the sheriff's office and 187 signed up for the fire department, said Neely Montejunas, recreation division director with the agency.  The race will be held at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. Participants can choose which team — guns for the sheriff's office or hoses for the fire department — and the $5 of the total registration fee …

Cherokee Firefighters, Sheriff's Deputies To Run For Children

The annual Guns & Hoses 5K and 1-mile fun run will be held next month.

Public safety officials on the first line of defense will come together to raise money for abused and neglected Cherokee County children.  Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency will once again join forces with the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for the Guns & Hoses 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 16.  The race will be held at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. Runners can choose which team — Guns for the sheriff's department or Hoses for the fire department — and the $5 of the total registration fee will be donated to a local charity.  The event this year will benefit CASA Cherokee.
