The program is a district-wide initiative that begins in elementary school and recognizes students who exceed the averages on standardized tests such as the ITBS. “Our Key Scholars represent the top 10% of all students in the Nation who took the PSAT exam in October, and that’s a major accomplishment for which each of them and their families should be very proud,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo said in a school district release.   “As academic leaders, these outstanding students have the potential to continue distinguishing themselves as high school …

As part of Operation Paperback, Cherokee donated books to third graders who are overseas with their servicemember parents.

The Cherokee High School Warriors have donated books to the children of America's warriors serving overseas. The third grade class of Cummings Elementary School in Misawa, Japan received copies of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" donated by Cherokee High School with the assistance of Operation Paperback, a non-profit volunteer group that sends the books overseas. Book Browsers in Woodstock also gave their support to the project. The school received enough copies of the book that each student was given a copy to take home with them and keep. “The kids were ecstatic to receive their books!” Cummings teacher Kari Frazier wrote in her thank-you note to Cherokee High School.  “We wanted to take a moment to thank you for your donation and …
