A young woman managed to crawl away from the wreckage but is not believed to have serious injuries.
A woman has been taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta after extricating herself from a car that landed upside down on Highway 372 in Ball Ground. According to a Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services release, a Honda left the highway near Flat Bottom Trail just before 6 p.m. Sunday and became airborne. When the car came back to Earth, it landed on its roof, possibly trapping anyone inside. The 911 caller that notified Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services was afraid someone may have been trapped inside the wreckage, but rescue crews only discovered an 18-year-old woman who managed to crawl out of the car, sustaining minor injuries. A man driving along Highway 369 in northeast Cherokee County suffered injuries after his vehicle left the roadway and landed on its side.
A single-vehicle accident left one man injured in northeastern Cherokee County Thursday afternoon. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident shortly after 1 p.m. on Highway 369/Hightower Road near its intersection with Lower Creighton Road. First responders discovered a Lincoln-Mercury vehicle left the highway and landed on its side. The driver of the vehicle, a 77-year-old male, was entrapped in the car and had to be extricated. The man suffered cuts to his hand and forearm, and also complained of pain throughout his body. He was transported by ambulance to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell where he is in stable condition. Fire Explorers Post #469 brought home six trophies at the 39th annual Winterfest Competition in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services’ Explorer Post #469 brought home six trophies in the 39th annual Winterfest Competition in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Over 3,200 people representing several states throughout the southeastern United States, attended the event held this past weekend. Members of each explorer post at the event competed in drills designed to test their skills and knowledge in the fire and emergency services field. Explorer Post #469 sent 16 of its own to compete against more than 60 teams. The local explorers post hosted the Pittsburg Drill exercise again this year and dedicated the drill in memory of Donna Westbrook, wife of Cherokee County EMA Director Robby Westbrook, who lost her life in an automobile accident last year. …

No one was injured when a silver Dodge Charger rolled down a boat ramp off Kellogg Creek Road into Lake Allatoona Monday afternoon.
The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is investigating what caused a silver Dodge Charger to roll off a boat ramp and crash into Lake Allatoona late Monday afternoon. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a call just before 4:45 p.m. Monday regarding a car that had gone into the lake off Kellogg Creek Road in southwest Cherokee County. According to a press release, Cherokee County E-911 received the call from a fisherman who stated the car was sinking into the lake quickly and there were people inside. However, when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the owner of the car told first responders no one was in the car. A man and a woman both received second-degree burns in the blaze.
A man and woman suffered second degree burns in an early Saturday morning fire near Canton. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services personnel were dispatched to a fire at 11258 Bells Ferry Road just south of Butterworth Road near Canton shortly after 2:15 a.m. Fire fighters arrived on the scene and discovered heavy flames coming from the one-story home. The two occupants inside were awaken by a smoke alarm, but suffered injuries from the blaze. A 36-year-old man received second-degree burns to his shoulders and a 31-year-old woman also received second-degree burns to her left shoulder. The Child Passenger Safety Mini-Grant will be used by Safe Kids Cherokee County to educate less fortunate families on child passenger safety.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services was awarded the 2013 Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Mini-Grant by the Georgia Department of Public Health's Office of Injury Prevention. The agency, along with Safe Kids Cherokee County, will use the mini-grant and work together to provide car seats and education to financially eligible families in Cherokee County. The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Maternal and Child Health Program "fund the grant to help ensure Georgia’s children are safe while riding in motor vehicles," Cherokee Fire said in a press release. A series of basketball games will be organized between the two entities, which will raise proceeds to help county fire stations.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services fire fighters and Cherokee County School District faculty members will come together on the basketball court for a good cause. The Cherokee County Council of PTA is organizing six basketball games in which teams will compete in a game of hoops to raise funds. Those proceeds would fire stations purchase Apple iPads embedded with GPS capabilities that will allow them to arrive sooner to scenes of fires, said Council President Adam Belanger. "We’re constantly reacting to an issue or problem, issue or tragedy," he said. "When this came to our attention, this was our chance to save lives before something bad happens." Shane Newton's son Grant's quick thinking is credited for saving his life after he was bitten by a rattlesnake.
A Cherokee County boy was recently recognized for helping save his father's life. Shane Newton and his son Grant, 9, on Friday visited the Cherokee County Public Safety headquarters to thank those who helped save his life after he was bitten by a rattlesnake on Nov. 8. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Cherokee County E-911 presented Grant with a certificate recognizing him for his quick actions and heroic efforts in saving his father's life. The Newtons were hiking on private property on a mountain near Lake Arrowhead Golf Course near Waleska when he was bitten by the snake.
