More Runners Needed for 'Guns & Hoses' Charity Run

The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency would like to see more participants in its seventh annual Guns & Hoses 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. The agency, which is teaming up with the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office for the event, had 650 runners last year and hope to reach 700 to participate during the event on Saturday Feb. 16. CRPA currently has 234 runners signed up for the sheriff's office and 187 signed up for the fire department, said Neely Montejunas, recreation division director with the agency. The race will be held at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. Participants can choose which team — guns for the sheriff's office or hoses for the fire department — and the $5 of the total registration fee …

Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency will once again join forces with the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for the Guns & Hoses 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 16. Safe Kids Georgia has awarded Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services its "Lead Agency of the Year" designation for local efforts to prevent accidental childhood injury. The honor was announced during Safe Kids' May 4 gala at the W Atlanta-Midtown, fire spokesman Tim Cavender said. Cherokee Fire houses the county's Safe Kids program. Led by Capt. Chad Arp, the department's fire safety educator, Safe Kids Cherokee focuses on child passenger safety, animal bite prevention, water safety, and bike and pedestrian safety.
