WellStar Renews Northside Objections

Its challenge of Northside Hospital-Cherokee's relocation plan rejected, WellStar appeals.

Northside Hospital-Cherokee's plan to relocate from Hospital Road to a new $250 million facility near Canton Marketplace is being challenged again, according to the Cherokee Tribune. Thursday, WellStar Health System Inc. filed an appeal with the Georgia Department of Community Health—the same agency that rejected WellStar's first challenge last month. While Northside has said the new hospital location would be less than three miles from the current one and therefore exempt from the certificate of need (CON) application process, WellStar has contended that Northside's math wasn't right. It has also argued that the hospital would offer new or expanded services, another factor that would disqualify Northside from a CON exemption. "Our …

WellStar Challenges Northside's Move

Last month, Northside-Hospital-Cherokee filed a Letter of Determination with the state’s Department of Community Health to relocate from Hospital Road to Highway 20, near the Canton Marketplace.

WellStar Health System Inc., which operates Kennestone Hospital and Windy Hill Hospital in Marietta, is challenging Northside Hospital-Cherokee's plan to move to a new $250 million facility near Canton Marketplace by March 2015, a spokesman said this morning. "The move by WellStar clearly is based on its concern that the new Northside Hospital-Cherokee campus will be well-received by the community, leading more community residents to obtain health care services locally," Northside spokesman Russ Davis said in a statement.  Last month, Northside filed a Letter of Determination with the state’s Department of Community Health to move from Hospital Road to Highway 20.
