A patient being transported in an AmeriMed ambulance was injured in an roll-over accident on I-575 near Exit 16 in Canton.
Editor's note (10 a.m.): the story has been updated to correct information provided to Patch. A patient and two medics riding in an AmeriMed Emergency Medical Services ambulance was injured in an accident early Sunday morning in Canton. According to a Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services press release, dispatchers received a call around 2 a.m. Sunday from the driver of the ambulance notifying them of the accident, which occurred along Interstate 575 near Georgia Highway 140 at Exit 16. Cherokee County fire responded to the accident shortly after the call and found the patient had been ejected from the back of the ambulance. Victor Baruchman, 20, of Woodstock has been charged with felony hit and run after he allegedly hit a crossing guard Tuesday afternoon in front of Freedom Middle School.
A Woodstock man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident that sent a Cherokee Sheriff's Office crossing guard to the hospital. Sheriff's deputies have arrested Victor Baruchman, 20, of Woodstock and charged him with felony hit and run. He remains at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $15,000 bond. Baruchman was running late to his Cherokee County DUI/Drug Court graduation when he allegedly hit the crossing guard in front of Freedom Middle School, according to a press release from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. Both of the governments' websites were given the 2013 Sunny Award by the Sunshine Review organization.
An organization that ranks government websites in the area of how accessible it is to the public has deemed the City of Canton's website one of the state's most transparent. The city was one of 12 websites given the 2013 Sunny Awards by the editors of Sunshine Review. The award honors "the most transparent government website in the nation." Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood said it's "always good to be recognized for openness in government." The website of the Cherokee County government also earned a Sunny Award for its accesibility to the public. A bill gathering steam in the Georgia General Assembly that would shorten the time local governments can consider cell tower applications is being monitored by local leaders.
While the city of Canton has no formal plans to announce opposition to a bill that would shorten the time local cities and counties can review cell tower applications, its leaders are keeping a close eye on House Bill 176. The legislation would give local governments a 150-day window to consider approving or rejecting a cell tower application. If the application hasn't been decided on within the 150 days, the tower would automatically be approved. The bill, formally titled the Mobile Broadband Infrastructure Leads to Development (BILD) Act, last week was approved by the Georgia House Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committee, chaired by the bill's chief sponsor East Cobb Republican State Representative Don Parsons.
