Body Found Behind Canton Marketplace

Authorities are labeling the person's death as "suspicious"

The body of a 20 to 30 year old Hispanic man has been discovered behind the Canton Marketplace, says the Canton Police Department. According to the department, hunters called the police at 9:27 a.m. after they found a body in the woods behind the shopping center. The man had no identification on his person when he was discovered. A department press release says that detectives are investigating the death of this man, and have labeled his death "suspicious."  If you have any information that may help identify the man, the Canton Police Department asks you to call 911.

Child Molestation Suspect Arrested

Carl Michael Janflone, a Paulding County Sheriff's deputy, was arrested at his Canton home. The victim was "familiar" to Janflone, authorities said.

A Paulding County Sheriff's Office deputy at the center of a sexual abuse investigation in Canton has been fired, authorities said this afternoon. Dep. Carl Michael Janflone was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Friday at his Canton home on charges of child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. "A report was filed by a third party, with the Canton Police Department, on September 29 in reference to the sexual abuse," Canton Police spokeswoman Det. Candy Worthy said in a news release. "Janflone was arrested without incident and was taken to the Cherokee County Jail for booking and bonding procedures. Additional charges are pending and the investigation is open and ongoing." Canton Police Department Helps Nab Suspect in Pill Theft

The woman is a registered nurse at an unidentified hospice agency.

A narcotics task force that includes the Canton Police Department said a Woodstock woman stole pain killers from an elderly patient on Tuesday. Amy M. Armstrong, a registered nurse with an unidentified hospice agency, was arrested Tuesday after agents saw her take the pills from the patient's home, Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad Cmdr. Phillip W. Price said. "Agents had been alerted by a family member to the possible theft of the narcotic pain killers which the patient had been prescribed," Price said. "When agents moved in to arrest Armstrong, they found more pills which included narcotic pain killers and anti-depressants."
