The Cherokee Sheriff's Office had to use a taser to subdue the suspect, who is accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend and stepdaughter.
A Waleska man is behind bars at the Cherokee Adult Detention Facility after threatening to kill his long-time girlfriend with a knife late last month. Terry Lee Brooks was arrested on March 24 for crimes resulting from a domestic dispute that had been in progress for two days. According to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office incident report, Brooks, who is allegedly bipolar and was off his medication, began assaulting his girlfriend of ten years after she tried to call 911 for an unrelated matter. According to the girlfriend and her daughter, Brooks used a broom handle to smash out a window, then kicked over furniture and appliances. Canton native Randy "R.J." Statler, 28, was killed Sunday in an apparent robbery at Cartersville's Sun Glo Car Wash on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Friends of the man killed Sunday in an apparent robbery gathered last night in Canton's Boling Park for a candlelight vigil. Randal "R.J." Statler Jr., 28, of Cartersville, was found shot and deceased at Sun Glo Car Wash on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Cartersville police believe he was the victim of a robbery. "We are praying we find the person who killed him," said friend and classmate Casey Weaver. "He was kindhearted, would do anything for anyone, the sweetest guy with $1 million heart and an amazing smile." Statler lived in Cartersville, but grew up in nearby Canton and was a 2002 graduate of Cherokee High School, according to Weaver and other friends. The plans of three cigarette thieves to sell their ill-gotten gains were snuffed out by Cherokee County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday morning on Highway 92. The three men, Vincent Donehue of Jonesboro, James Hill of Snellville and Mark McCain of Atlanta, are suspected of stealing large quantities of cigarettes from convenience stores in five counties, the Cherokee Tribune reported.
