A Toilet-Papered House and Missing Campaign Signs

School board candidate Kelly Marlow said her neighbor was "disturbed" by an act of election season vandalism. Turns out, the neighbor told Marlow something different.

Kelly Marlow and Kyla Cromer are running against each other for the Post 1 seat on the Cherokee County Board of Education. Over the weekend, Canton-Sixes Patch received a tip that Marlow's neighbor woke up to find rolls of toilet paper and Cromer campaign signs in the front yard of his BridgeMill home, not the Marlow signs that were once there. Reader Addie Price included a picture of the damage in a blog post she submitted to Patch, an image she said she received from Marlow. In an email Monday, Marlow told Canton-Sixes Patch that her neighbor didn't "want to become part of the story," but was "disturbed by this incident."  Tonight, another neighbor said Marlow's characterization of the homeowner's reaction to the alleged act of election …

Election Season Vandal Strikes Again

This time, the home of a Kelly Marlow supporter was targeted.

A neighbor of school board candidate Kelly Marlow woke up Saturday to find rolls of toilet paper and Kyla Cromer signs in his front yard.   The neighbor previously had "Elect Kelly Marlow for School Board" yard signs there, reader Addie Price said in a Local Voices post on Canton-Sixes Patch. The post included a picture of the vandalized home, which Price said she received from Marlow, who is running for Post 1 against Cromer. Post 1 covers BridgeMill, Liberty Elementary, Sixes Elementary, and parts of the Holly Springs, Toonigh and Univeter areas. "I did not submit the photo, but based on your request, I spoke to my neighbor," Marlow said in an email to Canton-Sixes Patch. "Unfortunately, he is disturbed by this incident but, because he …

After Man Lost Consciousness, Kicks Continued

When authorities pulled over Melvin Floyd in Alabama last Sunday, they found a badly beaten man in the trunk of the car he was driving.

Before Melvin Floyd allegedly stuffed Lyndon Baines Smith in the trunk of the victim's own car and drove him from BridgeMill to Alabama, authorities said he kicked him repeatedly until Smith lost consciousness. "Accused continued to kick victim after he lost consciousness," according to an arrest affidavit. The 22-year-old from Atlanta kicked Smith so hard, he "maliciously caused bodily harm to the person by seriously disfiguring him," an investigator wrote in the affidavit. The narrative outlined in the document, culled from statements Smith made to law enforcement, offers a glimpse into what happened at the home at 4140 Gold Mill Ridge at 3 p.m. March 4. But it doesn't explain what led Floyd to attack Smith, stuff him in the trunk of the…
