Thanksgiving may be the great feast day, but for many, it’s the day after that has moms celebrating. Black Friday carries the anticipation of getting your entire Christmas list knocked out cheaply and efficiently in one day. Or maybe not. I’ve had successful and unsuccessful Black Fridays, and trust me, to get the former, you need to strategize. Here are some tips to remember before hitting the aisles: 1. Gather all the pertinent information you need to effectively shop. Who needs a gift? What are their preferences? Where do they shop? 2. Every year there is an increased drive to get shoppers into stores. Black Friday now gets an early start on Thanksgiving Thursday, Buy Local campaigns push Small Business Saturday shopping and technology and social media sites encourage Cyber Monday logins. The message is clear - shop early and shop often. So what is your shopping style for the holidays? Will you be shopping off your Thanksgiving meal on Thursday or Friday, supporting the small businesses in your area on Saturday or is the computer your preferred shopping mall on Cyber Monday? It won't be hard to find a place to shop on Thanksgiving night in 2012. Target has announced that it will open at 9 p.m. on November 22 so shoppers can get a head start on Black Friday deals. “We thought long and hard about when the right opening time would be,” Target executive Kathee Tesija said in an Associated Press report. Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, already had announced that it will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Target plans to offer deals that include an Apex 32-inch LCD TV for $147 and a Nikon digital camera for $99.99 for the earlier opening, according to the report.
