Cherokee Firefighters, Educators To Battle In Game of Hoops

A series of basketball games will be organized between the two entities, which will raise proceeds to help county fire stations.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services fire fighters and Cherokee County School District faculty members will come together on the basketball court for a good cause. The Cherokee County Council of PTA is organizing six basketball games in which teams will compete in a game of hoops to raise funds. Those proceeds would fire stations purchase Apple iPads embedded with GPS capabilities that will allow them to arrive sooner to scenes of fires, said Council President Adam Belanger.  "We’re constantly reacting to an issue or problem, issue or tragedy," he said. "When this came to our attention, this was our chance to save lives before something bad happens."  Each of the school district's attendance zones will form six teams and participate…

Photo Gallery: Creekview Girls, Cherokee Boys Win in Pickens Holiday Classic Opener

Several Cherokee, Cobb and Douglas County teams started tournament play Tuesday at Pickens County High School.

Two Canton high schools won Tuesday at the opener of the Pickens Holiday Classic. The Creekview Lady Grizzlies beat North Cobb High, 58-50. The Cherokee Warriors defeated Banneker High, 62-52. The tournament continues today at Pickens County High School with more play among the 26 invited teams.
