New Head Coach Terry Crowder watched his Grizzlies battle it out against each other at the end of spring training. The game ended in a 21-21 tie.
Spring training at Creekview always ends with a scrimmage between the Grizzly blue and white squads. Friday night's game was a crowd pleaser with both running and passing plays that showed the diverse game plan and talent that Creekview will bring in the fall. After the game, new Creekview Coach Terry Crowder shared his take on the first two weeks of working with the team. "Up to this point, I am just so proud of the kids, how they have responded to me, the two new coaches and the existing staff. It's all come together seamlessly". Nixon, 54, has been charged with felony possession of cocaine after he was arrested along I-575 near the Airport Road interchange.
Former Atlanta Brave Otis Nixon is in trouble with the law. The former center-fielder for the Braves was arrested just after midnight on Saturday for felony possession of cocaine and possession of a drug-related object, according to a police report from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. He remains at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $11,880 bond. Nixon, who had a 66-year-old female passenger in the truck with him, was pulled over after Cherokee County dispatchers put out a be-on-the-lookout for a possible intoxicated driver traveling in a red Dodge Ram truck northbound on Interstate 575. Update, Thursday, May 2: The Adrenaline Run's 5K obstacle trail mud run in Woodstock has been rescheduled for Sept. 14 and 15. Original post, Wednesday, May 1: Teens are invited to sign up for Adrenaline Run's 5K obstacle trail run in Woodstock. The weekend event takes place May 18 and 19 at Olde Rope Mill Park and includes various obstacles and terrains as well as live music and freebies. The change drive is designed to cover a portion of the adoption fee at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter.
Liberty Elementary School Students are raising money for the Cherokee County Animal Shelter, and hope to save up to 850 animals from euthanasia. Liberty students will be donating change as part of the “Pennies for Puppies and Coins for Kittens” campaign. The money raised by the students will cover the $23.53 portion of the animal shelter's adoption fees from June to August, 2013. "We would like to take on such a worthy cause to give back to our community," said Liberty's Stacy Yawn. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter, which is in the running for the 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, tries to save as many animals as they can through spaying and neutering, education, and worming shots. Proud parents and top students from all over Cherokee County descended on the Cherokee County Board of Education meeting Thursday night. Among those being recognized for their stellar performances this year, were the Creekview Grizzly wrestlers. Creekview shattered their prior school records by sending a program high 12 wrestlers to State Sectionals. Nine of those would advance to the State Traditional tournament and five would place, including a state finalist for the first time at Creekview. The Cherokee High School ladies' basketball team ends the 2012-13 season with an impressive 29-2 record.
The Cherokee High School Lady Warriors basketball team's impressive run of 23 consecutive victories was snapped on Tuesday night in the GHSA Class AAAAAA Girls State Basketball Tournament by a juggernaut Norcross squad expected to contend for the state title. Despite the 76-43 loss, the ladies have many reasons to call this last season a successful one. “We won 29 ballgames this season,” coach Matt Cates said to the Cherokee Tribune. “That hasn’t happened since 1966 or ’67. Yeah, it hurts a little, but our kids played tough. They went undefeated in the region, won the region regular-season title and the region tournament.
