UPDATE: Police Charge 2nd Suspect, 17, in Murder of RJ Statler

The Cartersville teen turned himself in, accompanied by his father, to face charges including murder and armed robbery.

UPDATE (3:00 p.m.):  The second suspect charged with killing Cartersville resident and Canton native Randall "R.J." Statler during the commission of a robbery has no criminal history, CPD Capt. Mark Camp said. But Richard Clayton Flowers Jr., 17, of Cartersville, also has been charged in connection with an alleged purse snatching the day Statler was killed, which happened not far from the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive car wash. Camp said Flowers is accused of snatching a woman's purse as she shopped at the Dollar General in Market Square shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2012. Statler is believed to have been shot once in the head about 8 p.m., less than eight hours later. The woman, a 40-year-old Cartersville resident, said the purse …

UPDATE: Jasper Man Dies in Northwest Cherokee Accident

The single vehicle accident occurred Thursday afternoon just north of Canton

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a single vehicle accident that took the life of a Jasper man in Cherokee County. The accident occurred along Highway 140 near Sam Nelson Road between Canton and Waleska Thursday afternoon. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident around 4:45 p.m. and found 28-year-old Guy Russell Railing, Jr outside the vehicle. Gordy Wright, a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson, said Railing lost control of the vehicle while "negotiating" a curve and veered off the road. The car then struck an embankment and overturned multiple times. Railing was ejected from the car. A 33-year-old female passenger was able to get out the vehicle and stayed with the driver when emergency crews arrived …

UPDATE: Kidnapping Attempt Reported Near First Baptist Church

Officers from the Canton Police Department and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office are scouring the area searching for the suspect.

UPDATE (1:40 p.m.): The Canton Police Department has released more information about the attempted kidnapping outside the First Baptist Church in Canton. According to a department release, an adult woman was walking on the sidewalk of Reservoir Drive near the church when a man exited the woodline near the sidewalk and approached her. The woman told authorities that the man threatened to abduct her, and was allegedly carrying a hand gun. The woman immediately crossed the street, flagged down a passing motorist, and called 911. UPDATE: Police Arrest, Charge Cartersville Man in RJ Statler Killing

Cartersville police are continuing to investigate R.J. Statler's death and are seeking a second individual in connection with the alleged murder.

UPDATE (5:00 p.m.):  As police this afternoon announced an arrest in a homicide case Chief Tommy Culpepper called a “true who-done-it,” they were seeking a second man suspected in the Dec. 16 killing of 28-year-old Cartersville resident R.J. Statler at Sun Glo Car Wash. Authorities last night arrested Brettney Anwarr Moore, 26, of Cartersville, at his Akron Street home on charges of murder and two counts of armed robbery in connection with the late-night, single shot that killed Statler as he washed his truck after a day of “mudding” with family and friends. “This is a person, in my opinion, who has little regard for others around him and the community is better off with this person incarcerated,” Culpepper said during a press conference. …

Canton PD Obtains Arrest Warrants for Burglar

The public was instrumental in providing enough information for detectives to identify and secure arrest warrants for the suspect.

Due to the assistance of the public, the Canton Police Department has secured arrest warrants for the suspect in the recent string of burglaries in the Great Sky subdivision. Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for Paul Phillips, a 58-year-old white male who resides in Canton. Although Phillips is currently in the hospital, he will soon be arrested and charged with three counts of first degree burglary and one count of second degree burglary. According to the Canton Police Department, the first break in the case was made when investigators linked Phillips to a burglary at Antique Village Mall on Sunday. During the burglary, Phillips' face was captured by security cameras and he was identified by "numerous persons," said the department…
