Who Am I...?

New series explores the tension between what the "world" says we are supposed to be and what God says we are supposed to be.

It’s that time again. Time for the start of a new series. But before I talk about it, I want to reflect a little on our short but abundantly blessed history in Canton.

We’ve come a long way since we started Oak Leaf Church Canton just a few months ago. In February, we went to 2 services. In April we almost tripled the size of our meeting space by tearing down the wall into the office next door. Being able to serve and connect with thousands of families made our Easter weekend a smashing success.  We’ve come a long way in just a few months but the best is yet to come.

As a new church, we’ve tried to establish how we want to be identified - a loving, serving, Christ-centered church in the community - tackling some pretty strong but important topics that have helped define our vision and mission. During “Doctrine” we looked at five core Biblical truths that we would be the foundation for everything we would teach going forward. “Peace, Love, and Happiness” was a fun throw-back series to discuss specific actions we could put into practice that would lead to real, authentic hope, life, and joy. In February we put out the challenge to read the entire New Testament in 30 days. It was tough, but I am grateful we as a church are willing to place such a high importance on the Bible. That led us to last month where we looked at the sacrifices we have to make in order to trust God with our lives and become “Radical” followers of Jesus Christ.

So this month, with all that foundational teaching in place, it’s time to answer the question “Who Am I…?” as a spouse, a parent, a neighbor, a friend, and an American. In essence, we are weighing the tension between what the “world” says we are supposed to be and what God says we are supposed to be. In the end, I hope we can define ourselves as ones created by God and not be defined by the things God created.

Here are the dates so you can mark your calendar and invite all your friends. :)
