Five Things You Can Do With the Kids This Week

School's out all this week! Check out all the fun things you can do with your children during their Fall Break.

Let the young ones sleep in a little later this week, as students in the Cherokee County School District are off all week for Fall Break. If you aren't going on a nice family trip away from Cherokee County, here are some things you can do around town this week.

1. Get lost in a corn maze at Cagle's Family Farm. Every year, the corn maze is set up differently, so it's never the same pattern! Navigate the twists and turns with your kids, or challenge them to see which one of you can complete the course quicker! To avoid long lines for tickets, you can purchase them in advance.

2. Read a book to a dog at the Hickory Flat Public Library from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Allow your child to build confidence in his or her reading skills by reading aloud to a furry friend! Friendly pooches won't judge your child's reading skills and will probably love being read to! To book a session for your child, call the library at 770-345-7565.

3. Come to the 87th Annual Cherokee County Fair which runs from Tuesday, Sept. 17 to Sunday, Sept. 22. The fair will he held at the Legion Fair Grounds on McClure Street. In addition to the fair mainstays, there will also be some new rides and vendors attending this year's festivities. Admission will be free after 5 p.m. on Wednesday for those who bring a flier from a school website.

4. Go bow hunting for deerDeer season began for archers this weekend, and continues unmolested by rifle fire until Oct. 19. Hunters must obtain all proper licenses before hunting. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials are stressing hunting safety in the wake of five hunting fatalities which occurred last year.

5. Head over to Ball Ground for the Farmer's Market, which runs from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Backyard Market. There will be arts and crafts, baked goods, and locally-grown produce!
