UPDATE: Canton's Fourth of July Parade, Fireworks Postponed

No makeup date has been set, but there will be a fireworks show and parade in the near future.

UPDATE (6:10 p.m.): The City of Canton has confirmed that the annual Fourth of July Parade that marches through the heart of the city has been postponed due to weather concerns.

Neither the parade nor the accompanying fireworks show will be held on Thursday due to the threat of poor weather.

Both events will be rescheduled and their new dates will be announced within the next week.

ORIGINAL STORY:
Canton will celebrate the nation's independence with a dazzling fireworks show, but it won't be on July 4.

According to Pat Gold of Canton Tourism, the company responsible for the fireworks show at the Riverstone Shopping Plaza has decided to delay the event due to the threat of inclement weather.

Gold said that Canton Tourism could not cancel the show themselves, or there would be no possibility of a makeup date.

With the fireworks company deciding to postpone the show, there is a guarantee of future fireworks.

"They were very gracious," said Gold.

No makeup date has been determined yet, Gold said.

Patch has reached out to the organizers of the July 4 parade in downtown Canton to learn the status of their event.
