Hall of Fame to Honor Creekview AD

Nearly 35 years after throwing his last high school pitch, Virginia High School Hall of Fame officials say Charlie Beverly is still considered "the most dominating pitcher ever in Southwest Virginia."

Charlie Beverly, the athletic director at , will be inducted into the Virginia High School Hall of Fame today.

"Charlie Beverly laid the foundation for a baseball dynasty at J.J. Kelly High School," the Virginia High School League said in a news release. "Nearly 35 years after throwing his last pitch for the Indians, he still is regarded as the most dominating pitcher ever in Southwest Virginia."

Over the course of his career, he averaged 2.07 strikeouts per inning, nine shutouts, five no-hitters (including two back-to-back no-hitters) and one perfect game. Those stats caught the eye of Major League Baseball's Milwaukee Brewers and earned him a scholarship to the University of North Carolina. He graduated from Florida State University in 1982.

In addition to Beverly, nine other former athletes, coaches and supporters who are part of the 2011 class will be honored tonight during a dinner at the DoubleTree Hotel in Charlottesville, VA.
