Grizzlies Win Creekview Invitational

Things are heating up for Creekview Wrestling in a good way. One of the biggest tournaments in the area, the Creekview Invitational, ended with a Grizzly victory for both Varsity and JV over 16 other teams.

The Creekview Invitational Tournament in Canton is a favorite of area teams.  With 6 mats and great competition, it runs smoothly and gives everyone an idea of who they might see this winter as the season rolls on toward February.

The Grizzlies have a very competitive team this year.  Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Wyatt Wilkie and veteran coaches T.J. McNellie and John Judkins, Creekview wrestlers are winning.

The Creekview action started with Michael Edwards and a hard fought match against Andy Voss of North Hall. A penalty call against Edwards in overtime was the difference in a 5-4 victory for Voss.  Edwards finished in the runner up slot at 138 lbs.

Hunter Smith (160 lbs) was well up on points in the championship match, but due to a misstep in the second period, he was pinned by Jay Lyles of Chestatee.

Hunter Udall (170 lbs) faced John Metcalf of Cherokee.  Although Metcalf is a top wrestler in the county, Udall dominated the match and finished with a major decision of 13-1 for the first CIT Championship of the night.

The next Grizzly finalist was Joseph Sorrentino at 182 lbs.  Sorrentino was defending his title as champion of the 2011 CIT in the 182 lbs class.  Sorrentino easily controlled the pace of the match and ended the contest with a pin early in the 3rd period over Brock Neilson of Cambridge.

Sorrentino was also selected as the Outstanding Heavyweight Wrestler of the tournament.

Brock Tupman of Creekview was the final competitor for the Grizzlies at heavyweight (285 lbs).  Although Brock had a great tournament, he fell to Wes Pella of Woodstock in the first period to secure another runner up medal for Creekview.
