Creekview Grizzlies Beat River Ridge Knights 20-19

Friday night’s away game at River Ridge was a near thing, but ended up in the win column for Creekview.  Head Coach Terry Crowder picked up his first Grizzly win to even out at 1-1 for the season.

River Ridge struck first with a touchdown early in the first quarter.
Creekview answered back with  a Kyle Wilkie (No. 10) strike from 20 yards to Connor Dulmage (5) to tie it up at 7 each.

After a quick Knight’s 3 and out, Creekview drove the ball to inside the 10 on an Isaiah Rodgers (27) 40+ yard run.  The Grizzlies, however, would have to settle for a Ben McClellan field goal to go ahead 10-7.

The Knights would eventually capitalize on an interception in the second quarter and score with 25 seconds left in the half.  A missed extra point attempt would make the score 13-10 River Ridge at the half.

River Ridge took possession first in the second half to go 3 and out.  The Grizzlies quickly moved downfield, but stalled and would score with another Ben McClellan field goal to make it 13-13.

With a little over5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Creekview scored again with QB Kyle Wilkie hooking up with Connor Dulmage from just inside the 20 yard line.  The Grizzlies were now up 20-13.

The Knights would score once more in the 4th quarter, but would again fail to get the extra point.  Creekview would still lead 20-19.

The Knights woulld try one final time to take the lead, but a sack on 4th and 10 by Joseph Sorrentino (38) would  end their efforts.

There seemed to be a momentum shift toward the Grizzlies in the second half.  Even though scoring was minimal, Creekview seemed to take back control. When asked, Coach Crowder said "We really did not change anything".  He said “We're just trying to get the kids to believe in the system and to believe in the coaching.  It is so vastly different than what they are used to….. We’re just struggling with it a little bit.  We just told em' to believe in us and go out there and play a better second half, and that’s what we did.”

Creekview has a bye next week, which will give them extra time to prepare for 2012 Region Champions, Kell High School.
