Coming back from Christmas break, the Grizzlies had to finish in the top two at Region Duals or go home. State Duals, held in Macon Georgia, are only for the best two in each region. Creekview finished in second after four hard fought battles.
The first match was Sprayberry: The Grizzlies were in control from start to finish and came out on top with a 57-24 win.
Brock Tupman (285 lbs), Ryan Camp (106), Grant Slater (113), Justin Goss (120), Austin Collett (145), and Hunter Udall (170) all had pins to start things out right.
The match against Cambridge was an unexpected challenge. The Creekview season opener against the Bears was a relatively easy win. The Bears that showed up at Region Duals were a much improved team and ready to compete for a berth to State tournament.
Cambridge had a hard fought win over Kell in the first round. In the second round, they went up over Creekview 28-12 before the Grizzlies fought back with wins from Collett (145), Cowart (152), Smith (160) and Udall (170). Creekview finished 43-28 over the Bears.
Next, the Grizzlies faced the defending State Champions, the Pope Greyhounds. Although Creekview lost the match, Grizzlies wrestlers Michael Edwards (138 lbs), Austin Collett (145 lbs), Hunter Udall (170 lbs) and Ryan Camp (106 lbs) all had wins.
Finally, Creekview had to wrestle back for a true second place against Forsyth Central.
Even with 2 forfeits, the Grizzlies had 7 pins and 3 other wins to seal their 58-15 victory and State Duals berth.
