Canton Native Drafted by NFL's 49ers

Bruce Miller finished his college career at Central Florida as career sacks leader.

NEW YORK–Canton native and Woodstock High alum Bruce Miller was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of this year’s NFL draft, No. 211 overall.

He joins  as another area resident to go pro.

Miller, who played defensive end the last four years at the University of Central Florida, has been in talks about playing full back at the pro level, a position he’s never played before.

“I’m just excited for the opportunity to play in the NFL,” he said during a recent conference call. “If it was at defensive end, linebacker or full back, I’m just ready to get out to San Francisco and play some football.”

He worked out with full backs and tight ends during his pro day sessions.

Miller was a three-year letterwinner at Woodstock High and was named Cherokee County Gridiron Club Linebacker of the Year as a senior.

At UCF, he was a two-time Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010 and also set a school record in career sacks with 35.5. He ended his college career with a win over Georgia in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
