R&M Sandwich Shop Plans Renovations

The restaurant will close the week of Monday, Jan. 20 to do the renovations.

One of Canton's oldest businesses will soon undergo major renovations.

R&M Sandwich Shop announced on Facebook that it will soon begin renovating its building at 117 West Main Street.

The business will close for a week starting Monday, Jan. 20 to begin the project.

"We're bringing the building back to its original glory, which includes its solid wood floors, brick walls and tongue and groove wood ceiling," the company wrote. "It's a blend of old school and modern technology."

With the exception of adding some new items, the restaurant noted none of the menu items will change. The interior and the theme of the store "will be a history lesson of the downtown area," it noted.

The company added the renovations will make R&M Sandwich Shop "one of the coolest restaurants with some of the best food that you will ever have walked into.

Helen and the late Lou DeLuca opened the restaurant in March 1972 and their famous hoagies have helped feed Canton residents for more than 40 years.

The DeLuca family in 2012 indicated they were thinking of selling their space, but decided to keep the venture up and running.
