Northside Cherokee Named Primary Stroke Center

The hospital received the two-year advanced re-certification by The Joint Commission.

Northside Hospital-Cherokee has been re-certified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

The two-year advanced certification was given by The Joint Commission after the hospital underwent an on-site evaluation.

"Receiving this distinction as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center gives us the opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we provide to our patients," Northside Hospital-Cherokee CEO Billy Hayes said. "It also celebrates the dedication and hard work of our staff, who built our comprehensive Stroke Program into what it is."

According to the American Stroke Association, about 795,000 people experience a new or recurring stroke each year. It is the nation’s fourth leading cause of death and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States.

Northside Hospital's Stroke Care Program provides comprehensive care for patients and at-risk residents, including screening, education, early diagnosis, access to treatment resources and monthly support groups.

Certification by TJC is a voluntary process and "this achievement demonstrates that Northside Hospital-Cherokee meets critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients," the hospital said in a news release.
