Fashion Forward Snow Queen

With Round Two of snow and ice this will be a winter that will not be forgotten.  Which led me to consider, what are you fashion divas wearing in all this mess?  Seriously, how does a fashion conscious lady stay that way during times of inclement weather that could involve hiking through snow and slush?

First and foremost, please tell me you at least have some kind of waterproof footwear in your closet.  My go to in an ice storm with slush and snow just happens to be a tiger striped pair of rain boots these days.  Rain boots, I say?  What’s a snow queen doing with rain boots?  I’m telling you if you are looking for versatility, rain boots beat snow boots hands down for our area.  My tiger striped beauties are a more budget conscious choice that gets year round wear, which reduces the cost per wear for the item.  The Canton area gets a lot of rain, but we only get this icky ice mess once or twice per year.

You must be wondering how my feet stay warm in single layer rubber rain boots.  What did your mother tell you?  LAYER IT UP!  I have thin wool boot socks and a chunky pair of hand knitted ones that layer nicely and keep my toes snugly even in sub zero weather. Rain boots are very forgiving in sizing. Adding additional layers in winter works just fine, while no socks at all in the summer or spring ensures a cooler foot option.

The cost of rain boots varies.  I have found them at discount merchants such as Ross for $15 and on Zulily, an online web shopping sight for $18-65.  I have owned two pair in four years, the first being a zebra striped pair and the second being the tiger striped beauties described above.  I paid less than $20 for each of these.  If you don’t have any waterproof boots, think of getting some.  They work just as well with spring showers and a mini skirt, which will be our next seasonal concern for attire.

Interested in styles available? Just pop the search term rain boots into your browser.  You will see there is a wide range of styles and prices.  Are you a name brand fashion diva? Want a Michael Kors pair of rain boots?  You can have them for $120 from Macy’s.  Love vivid colors and designs in your footwear?  You can have that too.  Check out one of my old favorites for online footwear shopping, Zappos.

Some last words of advice concerning inclement weather boots from me to you—don’t sweat the commitment to a color or style you love.  I regret neither the black and white zebra boots nor the gold and black tiger striped boots I purchased.  It seems the colors just managed to sort themselves out stylishly no matter what I paired with them.  I made sure to get a vibrant purple rain coat, and heck, that looks great with any animal print!
