Big Butt, Small Waist, Barrel Chest

No, I’m not talking about Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund.  Yes, I had to look up how to spell Dachshund.  Since this is a fashion blog and not a pet blog, I am talking about real humans getting clothes made for unreal humans to fit properly.

This subject came to mind as I was discussing Miss Me jeans with my daughter via the internet.  Ladies, if you don’t know about Miss Me jeans, you should.  They are fabulous pieces of jewel encrusted denim with just the right combination of fibers and exquisite design to enhance your backside in the best possible way.  These jeans seldom go on sale. However, a store in Roswell, the Shoe Gallery, actually has them for 20% off today, Friday and Saturday.

My daughter’s response to news of this sale was, “I tried some on but they were way too long!”  Being short myself, I felt as though I had neglected a motherly duty to my girl child---I had neglected to tell her about the magic of alteration shops!!!

I am sure there are many talented individuals in the Canton area that can do a superb job for you, but my favorite is Lin’s Alterations at 1437 Riverstone Pky, #105 in Canton.  It’s right there in the Belk & Ross Shopping center.  My best friend, who is petite, introduced me to this wonderful magical shop that can take any item and make it fit.  My friend has a very tiny waist and would have to buy the items to fit elsewhere and then have the item taken apart and restructured to fit her perfectly.  My own husband has taken dress shirts into the shop and had them taken in at the sides to get rid of that “tent” effect that comes from being broad shouldered but with a long slimmer torso.

But I digress, back to Miss Me Jeans….I bought my first pair years ago realizing I’d have to have them hemmed.  Lin’s took these jeans apart and re-hemmed them to look exactly as if I had bought them customized for my own short legs.  Remember when your mother used to hem your pants and it looked like she just cut off the bottom, pressed it and hemmed it?  Well, this is not what I am talking about.  I’m talking about a New York, or super hem, that leaves the original hem in place.  Oh yes!  This is every short person’s dream- jeans that look like what the tall people are wearing with the same exact professional hem!  And it was only around $17 for this piece of perfection!

So, if you are lusting after an item of clothing that doesn't quite fit you right, and you thought you’d never be able to make it fit, STOP IT! Go get that item and head over to Lin’s or an alteration shop and tell them exactly how you want it to fit.  This kind of specialized tailoring will make you look so much better in your clothes.  Now go get some sparkles for your backside.
