Three Apply For Cherokee BOE District 1 Seat

District 1 residents Kyla Cromer, James "Jim" Nicholson and William Wuth have all submitted applications to be considered for appointment to the vacant seat.

The Cherokee County School Board next week will decide among three candidates who should become the interim District 1 member.

The board during its meeting on Thursday, which starts at 7 p.m., will consider appointing a person to serve in the interim.

The candidates are:

  • Kyla Cromer, vice president of the Cherokee County Council of PTA
  • James "Jim" Nicholson, a retired educator
  • William Wuth, a former private school administrator
The seat is now vacant due to the April 30 resignation of Kelly Marlow, who was convicted of felony false statement charges.

State law calls for the board to hold a special election to fill vacancies when more than a year of a board member's term remains. Marlow's term expires on Dec. 31, 2016.

The person appointed will serve until a candidate is elected in a special election set for Nov. 4.
