3. After first place finishes at the Cherokee County School District’s Social Studies Fair, fifth-grader Haley Swanger and sixth-grader Madison Rodriguez have advanced to regionals, district spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said this week. Meanwhile, Knox's Danielle Mullan took top honors in the Cherokee County Council PTA's Reflections competition, which was based on the theme "Diversity Means ..." Mullan's self-choreographed dance earned her a spot in the state competition, Jacoby said.

4. The Canton Optimist Club will put on the at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Return to the site at 8 a.m. to find out everything from road closures to the parade lineup. Not only will Canton-Sixes Patch walk in the parade, we'll have a booth at Cannon Park starting at 1 p.m. Get some yummy hot chocolate, have your picture taken for a parade photo gallery that will appear on the site, meet Patch staffers, sign up for our free newsletter, and like our Facebook and Twitter pages. We'll also hand out balloons, a small number of free kids' meals vouchers and other Patch swag.

Bonus: The at 2295 Towne Lake Parkway will host Vince Dooley, the legendary coach and athletic director, from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Dooley will sign copies of his book, which will be available for $20 to $35.
