Get Out: Friday Night Lights

Are you ready for some football? High school season openers are Friday night.

Where/When: , 3635 Coal Mountain Rd., Cumming; 7:30 p.m. Friday

Why Go: It's Friday night. It's football. It's fall. Well, it's almost fall. Cheer for the guys of the gridiron and support the Warriors as they open their season in Cumming.

Why Go: Mother Superior and her order of eccentric but endearing nuns will show you the lighter side of being Catholic. Hilarious dance numbers, catchy tunes and witty dialogue is heaven-sent.

Pricing: $9 to $11

Where/When: Cherokee Recreation Center, 7545 Main St., Woodstock; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Here's a chance for babysitters ages 11-15 to improve their skills in childcare including first aid, feeding, food preparation and safe play. This course is provided by the Cherokee County Recreation and Parks Department and follows American Red Cross guidelines. Registration is required by calling Kate Borden at 770-924-7768. Participants need to bring a sack lunch. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a babysitter's handbook and official certification.

Where/When: Falany Performing Arts Center, Reinhardt University, 7300 Reinhardt Circle, Waleska; 7:30 Saturday.

Why Go: It's a night of great music as Don Discenza returns to Falany with a new six-piece ensemble. They will play and sing a creative mix of standards, tango, jazz and gospel. Joining the ensemble is vocalist Shawn Megorden in her second appearance at Falany.

Pricing: $25 general admission; $20 seniors and children.

Where/When: Cherokee County Humane Society Thrift Store, 5900 Bells Ferry Road, Acworth; Sunday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: You can save a few bucks on those routine shots for the family pets. There are puppy vaccine packages starting at $39 as well as vaccine packages for adult animals. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in cages.
